Cutter Suction Dredger (CSD) is a highly efficient underwater excavation and dredging vessel, mainly used for channel dredging, port construction, land reclamation, river management and other projects. It uses a rotating auger to break up underwater soil or rock, and then uses a powerful mud pump to transport the broken mixture (mud) to a designated location through a pipeline.

Core Components
Cutter Head

Located underwater at the bow, it is equipped with carbide teeth that can rotate to cut/crush seabed mud, clay, gravel and even rocks.

Different knife types (such as rock drills and dredgers) are designed according to geological conditions.

Suction Pipe & Dredge Pump

The material crushed by the cutter is sucked into the pipeline, sucked and pressurized by a high-power centrifugal pump (dredge pump).

Ladder

The lifting structure that supports the cutter and suction pipe controls the excavation depth through an articulated arm (up to 30 meters underwater).

Positioning System

Anchoring positioning: Anchor cables are laid around the hull, and the position is adjusted by retracting and releasing (traditional method).

Pile positioning: Two steel piles are set at the stern and inserted into the riverbed alternately, and the hull is swung left and right with the piles as the fulcrum (suitable for narrow waters).

Dynamic Positioning (DP): Advanced ships use GPS+thrusters to automatically maintain position (accurate and efficient).

Discharge Pipeline

A floating pipe or submerged pipe is used to transport mud to a landfill or dump several kilometers away.
