The cutter suction dredger is a continuous dredging equipment that integrates excavation and transportation.

Core working principle:

Excavation: A large rotatable cutter head is equipped at the front of the hull. The cutter head is usually made of high-strength alloy steel with sharp teeth or blades. It is lowered to the area on the bottom of the water that needs to be dredged, and is driven to rotate by powerful power to cut, crush and loosen the mud, clay, gravel and even soft rock on the bottom of the water.

Suction: A mud suction port is installed in the center of the cutter head or just behind it. A powerful centrifugal mud pump (usually located inside the hull) generates a high negative pressure (vacuum) at the mud suction port.

Transportation: The material broken and loosened by the cutter is mixed with water to form mud (mud-water mixture), which is sucked in through the mud suction pipe under the suction force generated by the mud pump. The mud is then transported to a designated location (such as a mud discharge area or a reclamation area) several kilometers or even more than ten kilometers away through a mud discharge pipe (which can be a pipe on a ship, or a floating pipe or submersible pipe extending to the shore or a designated area).
