Operation

The operation of a CSD begins with the positioning of the vessel at the dredging site. Once anchored in place using the spuds, the cutter head is lowered to the seabed. As the cutter head rotates, it breaks up the material, which is then sucked up through the suction pipe by the dredge pump. The material is transported through a discharge pipeline to a designated location, where it is deposited.

The swing system allows the cutter head to move in an arc, enabling the dredger to cover a wide area. After completing a pass, the dredger is repositioned using the spuds, and the process is repeated until the desired depth or volume of material has been removed.
