The working process of a cutter suction dredger is relatively straightforward. First, the cutter head rotates at
high speed, cutting and loosening the sediment on the bottom. This action breaks up the soil, turning it into a slurry of sediment and water. The mud pump, which creates a powerful suction force, then draws this slurry through the suction pipe. Once inside the pump, the slurry is  pressurized and pushed through the discharge pipeline. The pipeline can be extended over long distances, either on - board or  using floating hoses, to deposit the material at the required location, such as a spoil ground or a reclamation site.

A CSD operates using a rotating cutter head + suction pipe + discharge system:

✔ Cutter Head – A rotating device with blades or teeth that cuts and loosens the seabed material.

✔ Discharge System – The dredged slurry (water + sediment) is pumped through floating pipelines to a disposal site or processing area.

  • Cutter Head
The cutter head is a rotating, toothed component at the front of a cutter suction dredger. It cuts and loosens underwater soil (e.g.,sand, clay, or rock), which is then mixed with water and pumped away via the suction pipe.   • PLC Control System
